Kleptoparasitism is the stealing of prey items from other individuals. Kleptoparasites and their hosts are often different species, such as gulls stealing from auks, or Great Skuas stealing from Gannets. Some species show facultative kleptoparasitism, stealing only in cases of low food availability.
